Santa Ana College
Santa Ana College (SAC) offers an American Bar Association (ABA)-approved Paralegal Program designed to prepare students to work as assistants to licensed attorneys in various legal settings, including law firms, governmental agencies, and corporations. The program emphasizes practical skills such as legal research, interviewing clients and witnesses, preparing legal documents, and understanding legal procedures. Strong English proficiency, computer literacy, and organizational abilities are essential assets for students pursuing this profession.
Program Options:
- Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies
This degree program combines paralegal coursework with general education requirements, providing a comprehensive educational experience. Students must complete a minimum of 60 semester units, including legal specialty courses and general education classes. The curriculum covers essential areas such as legal research, legal writing, civil litigation, tort law, and law office technology. - Paralegal Certificate
This certificate is available to students who have already earned an Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. The program focuses on paralegal-specific coursework, requiring the completion of legal specialty courses. Students must demonstrate completion of 18 semester units of general education as defined by the ABA.
Upcoming Program:
In Fall 2025, Santa Ana College plans to launch a Bachelor of Arts in Paralegal Studies, pending final approval from the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. This program is designed for students who have completed an Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies from an ABA-approved institution and aims to provide advanced education and training in the legal field.
