El Camino College offers an American Bar Association (ABA)-approved Paralegal Studies Program designed to equip students with the skills necessary to excel as paralegals. The program provides two educational pathways:
- Associate in Arts Degree in Paralegal Studies: This degree combines paralegal coursework with general education requirements, totalling 60-65 units. Students will complete seven required courses focusing on legal fundamentals and select four elective courses tailored to their interests. The curriculum covers areas such as legal research, civil procedure, legal writing, and technology in law. Day and evening classes are available to accommodate diverse schedules. Upon completion, graduates are prepared to assist attorneys in various legal settings, including private law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies.
- Paralegal Studies Certificate of Achievement: Designed for individuals who already hold an associate or bachelor’s degree, this certificate program encompasses 33-35 units across 11 courses. The curriculum mirrors that of the associate degree, focusing on essential legal skills and knowledge. This pathway enables students to complete their paralegal education in approximately four semesters.
El Camino College’s experienced faculty comprises practicing attorneys and judges who provide practical insights and training. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, offering opportunities for internships and cooperative work experiences to bridge classroom knowledge with real-world application.
