 De Anza College offers an American Bar Association (ABA)-approved Paralegal Studies Program, providing both an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree and a Certificate of Achievement-Advanced. Established in 1993, the program combines basic legal instruction with practical training, preparing students for employment as paralegals under the supervision of attorneys in various settings, including private law offices, public agencies, and corporate legal departments. The curriculum covers a range of legal practice areas, such as litigation, corporate law, intellectual property, and civil litigation procedures. Students develop essential skills in legal research, writing, and analysis, and are trained to perform tasks like drafting legal documents, interviewing clients and witnesses, and assisting attorneys in pretrial and trial preparations.
